Corporate social responsibility
We believe a well-run CSR programme drives inclusive growth. Our work goes beyond compliance, bringing social and environmental good to the communities that live around our plants, and making the most of every rupee we spend.
Education
Every year we select 30 Class 11 students from low-income families, at least a third of them girls, through a written test held each August. Each receives a scholarship of Rs. 500 a month for five years. Candidates need at least 60% in their high school board exam.

Free weekly health check-up camps and free medicines for villagers in need around our plants, free eye check-up camps, and a free ambulance service ready round the clock for emergencies.

Nutrition and well-being
Monthly support against malnutrition for children from low-income families, and clothes and blankets for people in need during the cold winters of Uttar Pradesh.

Healthcare for all
Free medical check-ups and medicines for poor villagers. We provided 30 days of rations to two orphanages at Dhenkanal, Odisha, and support Kalptaru Chhatra Vass and Mamta Sishu Gruha orphanages with 15 days of food.
Over 1,500 villagers have been helped through our eye camps and given free spectacles, with more than 100 cataract operations at Sankar Netralaya, Kolkata. Our free emergency ambulance serves more than 2,000 households in over 18 villages.

Ration bags for 281 families
UAL Bengal, Tungadhowa, handed out ration bags to poor families in the nearby villages of Banksole, Hatigeria, Naikansole and Bhalkisole in Paschim Midnapore, bringing a smile to 281 households.

12 model houses for Cyclone Fani survivors
Answering the Chief Minister of Odisha's call to rebuild after Cyclone Fani, and guided by the Special Relief Commissioner and the Collector of Puri, UAL Odisha built 12 model houses for families of Baliguali village, Puri Sadar block.
Each 225 sq. ft. house has a room, verandah, kitchen, and toilet with a water tank. Our fibre cement roofing sheets carry a Micro Solar Dome that lights the house by day and night and charges mobile phones. The houses were handed over by the Project Director, DRDA Puri, in the presence of the Chief Priest of the Jagannath Temple and our CMD, Sri Arun Kumar Saraf.
Public toilet block at Ramkrishna Bazar
Manikpara Ramkrishna Bazar, near Sardiha station in Jhargram, is a village market where about 1,200 people gather every day. At the market committee's request, UAL Bengal built a public toilet and urinal block under the Swachh Bharat Mission. It was opened by our CMD, Mr. Arun Saraf.

New school building at Birjharia
Local people in Birjharia, Kharbandhi, Jhargram, an area with few schools, asked us for help. We built the UAL Bengal Saraswati Shishu Mandir, which will serve around 500 students a year. It was opened by our CMD, Sri Arun Kumar Saraf.

Free eye screening camp
With Sankar Netralaya, Kolkata, UAL Bengal screened 650 villagers from Sankrail, Jhargram, Kharagpur and nearby blocks. 124 patients were referred for cataract surgery, 439 received free spectacles, and everyone who needed it was given medicine.
